> What Software Shortlist says about Dokeos:

The Dokeos (free edition) will more than suffice for any small-to-medium sized business just starting out in learning management.

Key strengths of Dokeos include:

  • Easy to use
  • Low cost
  • Easy to learn

Dokeos provides all the basic learning management system features, plus a few cool extras. The extras include an in-house messaging system with an inbox, outbox, pending invites to courses, contacts, and groups of contacts functioning similar to MS Outlook; notebook functionality for users to take and store notes; and project creation for administrators to create web pages to track and manage the tasks of a project to completion.

It also provides an opportunity to upgrade from the free edition to commercial editions specifically meant for education/academic environments, corporate/government environments, and medical environments. Commercial editions provide additional features and support as your needs and requirements evolve.

For the free edition, Dokeos provides only a user forum and online help documentation for product support. The online help documentation can be of varying quality, and the forums don't seem particularly well setup for beginner users. The free edition also lacked the branding capabilities offered by many competitors. Pre-defined themes are available (e.g., change fonts from green to purple), but there didn't appear to be an interface for things like uploading your company's logo.

Dokeos basic version is free. You also have the option to upgrade later to commercial versions.
