AWeber is one of those email service providers who really do get email marketing. A robust and rich feature set gives email marketers almost everything they need to keep a hawk’s eye on their campaigns.
What we liked: AWeber is very strong on conversion and revenue tracking. Most ESPs palm off this task to the web analytics package but AWeber goes the whole nine yards. You can track both conversion and revenue even if you are on a multi-product ecommerce site. This, when combined with the segmentation feature, gives you powerful up-sell and cross-sell opportunities. We also liked that you could automatically tweet your campaign over Twitter. With a little bit of integration hocus pocus using an aggregator like ping.fm you can push those tweets out to Facebook and your other social network watering holes too. Excellent autoresponder capabilities allow you to get quite sophisticated, including drip-feed campaigns. All up, AWeber is a powerful and feature-packed solution that will suit most email marketing needs.
What we didn’t like: The user interface can be a bit non-intuitive and clunky. The pop up wizard that tries to be helpful is more of a nag. It takes some figuring out to get around the menu system. Be ready to dig into the help section if things get complicated. The newsletter templates are barebones - you may need to hire a designer to do your template unless you are happy with just sending out the text version. AWeber also does not allow you to import your existing contacts without getting their confirmation. It is a good deterrent against spammers no doubt but painting legitimate opt-in list owners with the same brush can be a bit burdensome. We also missed the forward-to-a-friend and the share across social networks feature found in many other systems.
In summary:
Comes with almost everything you need, including integrated web analytics that tracks conversion & revenue. However, the interface may be confusing and the templates are quite basic. Overall, we give AWeber 5 stars.
